Digitalisation of Process Control – Delivering More Data with Cyber Security in Mind – Virtual Events 25 – 26 November 2020
Digitalisation seems to be the new industry buzzword, but what does it actually mean for the process industry? A need to reduce costs drives our desire for increased efficiency; a new generation of digital technology claims to make this possible. Do the rewards of digitalisation outweigh both the risks and the expenditure? Digitalisation isn’t just about introducing new technology, it often means that systems can be rendered more vulnerable, processes have to be updated, work forces have to be trained, systems have to be successfully integrated and the data captured has to be processed. The question remains, which technology gives best return on investment? J

YP Unplugged 360 Series Webinar. Our Role in the Energy Transition. D. Nathan Meehan, CMG Petroleum Consulting Ltd
The need to decarbonize the oil and gas industry to remain competitive is clear; however, the path forward is not. In the face of investor, government and societal pressures operators and service companies have pursued a variety of paths towards the use of renewables, increased efficiencies and Carbon Capture Use and Storage. Dr. Meehan shares an approach to quantify carbon intensity (CI) of oil and gas activity and presents results showing a wide disparity in CI around the world.
Technical Webinar. A New Well Monitoring Method – Managing Well Integrity in a Cost-driven Net Zero Emissions Energy Industry. Neil Gordon, Sentinel Subsea
Cost-efficient environmental stewardship is the foundation of a thriving 21st century energy industry, not least as we all rise to the current global challenges. At the centre of this is the integrity of thousands of subsea wells across the globe. Recognising the challenges faced by the industry in cost-driven and net zero emissions energy future, Sentinel Subsea has developed a range of in-situ well monitoring technologies which adopt a unique method for achieving these vital well integrity management activities. Their Hydrocarbon Detection System and Tracer Detection System provides the industry’s only passive well monitoring technology. With backing from the OGTC and a North Sea operator their equipment has been tested in both the onshore and offshore environment. Following system trials in Buckie Harbour their system was shipped offshore and deployed off a platform for a 2-week period in August 2019.
Webinar – Western Isles Field Development – A Subsurface Perspective. Nick Beaumont-Smith & Truong Nguyen – Dana Petroleum
The Western Isles field was first encountered by the 210/24a-8 &210/24a-10z exploration wells, however results were unclear with geological complexity hampering interpretation. The full potential of the field was not recognised until 2008/9 when the area was explored by Dana Petroleum. A series of four wells were drilled that helped identify four independent fault blocks hosting oil in both the Upper and Lower Brent formations. The presentation will chart the evolution of the subsurface understanding since sanction to start-up. It will focus on results from development drilling and how this materially changed management of the field. Each new well has led to an upward revision of in-place volumes with material changes in field stratigraphy encountered. Production data has greatly improved the subsurface understanding however there has been the occasional surprise.
