SPE is the largest individual-member organization serving managers, engineers, scientists and other professionals worldwide in the upstream segment of the oil and gas industry.
Formed in 1957, the SPE global membership has now reached over 156,000 members in 154 countries with 383 student chapters and 203 sections and 72,000 student members.
The Aberdeen Section is one of the largest of the SPE Sections across the world and in 2017 we won the President’s Award for Excellence for the 8th year in a row – the only section to do so ever. In 2019 the section once again was awarded the Presidents Award for Section Excellence, which is something that we are very proud of.
The section has over 2500 members ranging from drilling and completions engineers to production and operations specialists, HSE practitioners, and other professionals. The section also serves over 600 student members from 5 student chapters (Aberdeen University, Robert Gordon University, Dundee University, Heriot Watt University and Strathclyde University).
We aim to enable the global oil and gas E&P industry to share technical knowledge needed to meet the world’s energy needs in a safe and environmentally responsible manner. To do this we collect, disseminate, and exchange technical knowledge concerning the exploration, development and production of oil and gas resources, and related technologies for the public benefit; and to provide opportunities for all industry and academic professionals to enhance their technical and professional competence.
