YP Simplified Series Presents:

Pipeline Corrosion Management Framework

Marguerite Forde, ROSEN (UK)

Registration and networking from 6.00 pm, with the event starting at 6.45 pm

Outline:

It is recognised that corrosion is a major cause of pipeline failures; with up to 25% of failures in Europe attributed to corrosion. For years the pipeline industry has been using sophisticated ILI tools to detect and size corrosion combined with analytical techniques to support integrity assessments.

So why is corrosion still one of the main threats compromising pipeline integrity and reducing operational life? How often are pipelines inspected as a routine activity?

How often is the same inspection repeated without considering in detail “why”, or fully investigating what the inspection data is really telling us about the pipeline’s condition?

As an industry, we must challenge this reactive approach to corrosion management and move to a more proactive approach.

Drawing on ROSEN’s experience of working with pipeline operators, we have combined the effectiveness of various corrosion management methods, the efficiency of inspection methods and the development of analytical techniques to form a Corrosion Management Framework that illustrates, what we consider to be, industry best-practice.

Biography:

Marguerite Forde BE Civil (University College Cork) is a Senior Corrosion Engineer at ROSEN (UK) with 8 years’ in the industry.

Marguerite is a consultant in corrosion and integrity management for the oil and gas industry. She has extensive experience in the delivery and project management of corrosion threat assessments and corrosion control schemes, both on and offshore. Most recently Marguerite has been applying flow assurance to investigate how pipeline flow affects corrosion characteristics.

She is a founding member of Young Pipeline Professionals Europe (YPPE) and is currently vice chair.
