The Solan Oil Field is located offshore in the hostile north Atlantic approximately »135 km west of the Shetland Isles and »135 metres water depth. Solan commenced production in April 2016 comprising of 4 subsea wells (2 producers-2 injectors) tied back to a single slim jacket with essential process facilities topside. The development includes several innovative features which enables full remote control from an onshore control room in Aberdeen. One of the most novel feature was the construction of a subsea storage oil tank (SOST), located » 300 metres from the platform, with the aim to provide operational flexibility for such a remote harsh weather installation. The concept selection, design, fabrication, installation and operation are the subject of this presentation.
Biography:
Marcos’s background is in Mechanical Engineering and he started in the oil industry in 1996 as Production / Petroleum Engineer for different oil exploitation units as part of the INTEVEP research and support branch of PDVSA. After 10 years of a successful career, he moved into the UK sector achieving different Lead PE positions in Eclipse Petrotech, Nexen (lead PE Buzzard Field) and providing consultancy for different oil projects such as Mariner, Laggan and Tormore to establish the integrated asset view, mainly focussing on production strategy. Marco joined Premier Oil in 2014 as Lead PE to develop commission and establish the operation strategy for Solan field; he is now Lead PE across all operated assets.
